ARM is expected to really break into the server market now as Smooth-Stone has announced acquiring impressive 84 million dollar to finance its coming ARM project. Many major companies have shown interest with investments of their own.
Intel has been prettly lonely at the top of the server throne, but as both AMD and VIA have been gaining shares over the last few years another potential threat has appeared.
The Register reports that Smooth-Stone have acquired large sums of money via several investment companies (ATIC, Texas Instruments, Battery Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, and Highland Capital Partners) for its new ARM server project. These servers should be very good for those who are looking to build a less demanding data center or perhaps just need more energy efficient products.
