Dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon CPU before the end of the year

Qualcomm had a big break with its ARM-based Snapdragon chip for smartphones. The successor is expected to appear soon sporting dual processor cores and clock frequencies up to 1.5 GHz, before the end of the year actually.

Qualcomm QSD8672 is the name of the new chip and it is made with  45 nanometer technology, and will get individual voltage regulation for the cores. This means that units can better optimize performance versus power consumption depending on load. Earlier this summer Qualcomm announced the MSM8260 chip sporting dual 1.2 GHz cores, which will soon be trumped.

Qualcomm’s new dual-core circuit will support both DDR2 and DDR3 memory, and be capable of playing 1080p video through HDMI. Qualcomm QSD8672 will be going up against Texas Instruments’ dual-core OMAP4430 ARM circuit and the processors are expected to be found in smartphones and tablets in early 2011, perhaps even sooner.
