Storage maker PhotoFast has plans to finish the year with a bang. It has several new SSD solutions coming and one of them is PhotoFast PowerDrive-LSI, a PCIe-basd storage unit with four SSD controllers, 512MB DDR2 cache and write speeds up to 1500 MB/s (!).
PhotoFast PowerDrive-LSI is connected to the computer through a PCI Express x8 port for sufficient bandwidth when the four RAID 0 SSD controllers shuffles data up to 1.5 GB/s.
Power Drive-LSI is hardly a retail solution, but PhotoFast markets the SSD as a “Gaming SSD”. We can’t say that much more about that, other than that it will not be your primary bottleneck when chasing frames in Crysis. The SSD is of course bootable and supports PCI Express 2.0.
With four SSD controllers, connected through an 800 MHz LSISAS2108 RAID processor, PowerDrive-LSI not only gets mighty impressive performance but also high capacity. The entry model has 240GB, but the unit also ships with 480GB and 960GB. It can master up 1400 MB/s read speed and write speed up to 1500 MB/s, with ordinary MLC NAND flash circuits.
How many gamers that actually affords this SSD we don’t know, but the price should be revealed when the drive launches in October.
