OCZ Technology continues to announce new SSDs and last to hit the market is another SandForce based series called Onyx 2. Despite the powerful SandForce processor Onyx 2 will be an affordable alterantive if we are to believe the press release.
OCZ Onyx 2 comes with a specified read and write speed of 275 MB/s and 265 MB/s respectively, which together with 10,000 IOPS at random 4K files promises decent performance for the aware users. Like previous SandForce solutions from OCZ, Onyx 2 uses MLC NAND flash circuits and supports TRIM.
“While we are constantly looking to push the envelope in solid state drive performance, we are also dedicated to making the technology more affordable to consumers.”
Storage capacities start at 120GB and range up to 240GB, and the drives are covered by 2 year warranty. OCZ says that the new 2.5″ SSD will offer better price/gigabyte than other competing models, but we’re still missing the prices.
