Before the end of the year both Seagate and Western Digital have promised to launch 3.5″ harddrives with 3TB capacity. External models have already seen the light of day,but now the internal models have been sighted in a German store listing models from both companies.
Neither Seagate nor Western Digital have officially announced any internal 3.5″ harddrives with 3TB capacity, but if we are to believe German e-tailer Schottenland.de they are coming soon. The store has listed two different 3TB models; 3TB SEAGATE/MAXTOR Barracuda XT (ST33000651AS) and 3TB WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Green (WD30EZRS).
So far we can’t say for certain if the names are authentic, but according to our sources at least WD will be revealing more about its 3TB harddrives in November, which could mean they are not that far from shipping to stores.
Ths specifications at Schottenland.de indicate thatSeagate is going for a more performance oriented model. With 7200 RPM and SATA 6.0 Gbps interface it should be quite fast, while WD’s Caviar Green model settles for 5400 RPM and SATA 3.0 Gbps. At the same time WD has a substantial trump in the noise department with only 29 dBA vs. 32 dBA for the Seagate when searching. Both units come with 64MB cache.
The specifications should of course be considered with a pinch of salt, but hopefully this is a sign for that we will be seeing 3TB harddrives in stock soon. No prices were mentioned.
