Memory maker A-DATA has aunched a new flagship in the form of the S501 drive. In the 2.5″ format we find a SSD controller from Marvell paired with MLC NAND flash from Toshiba. A combination that together with the SATA 6.0 Gbps interface proises speeds of 480MB/s and 310MB/s.
A-DATA S501 will launch in four different sizes with 64GB, 128GB, 256GB or 512GB capacity. To reach these impressive speeds the controller comes with 128MB DDR3 cache and that it can now brag about read speeds up to 480 MB/s in a regular 2.5″ SSD is truly impressive. Even if the write speed is considerably lower, 310 MB/s is still very high and hints that this is the same controller as PhotoFast will use with its PhotoFast G-Monster3 XV1.
When the new SATA 6.0 Gbps drives will appear remains to be seen, but we hope to see the S501 series in the testlab soon. Prices will be high, as with all premium drives.
