MSI will present a whole load of new products at CES in Las Vegas next week, including two extreme versions of NVIDIA’s and AMD’s graphics cards. The flagships GeForce GTX 580 and Radeon HD 6970 have both been given the Lightning treatment with extra powerful power supplies and high overclocking potential.

MSI N580GTX Lightning supplies its 512 CUDA cores with power from 16 separate phases distributed across GPU and memory. The graphics card will, as expected, sport 1536 MB GDDR5 memory, but the exact clock frequencies were not revealed.

MSI R6970 Lightning is the equivalent AMD card sporting a Cayman XT GPU with 1536 stream processors boasting a power suppy of 18 phases and 2GB GDDR5 memory. MSI hasn’t revealed any frequencies for this card either, but both are expected to appear in stores in January.

We can also conclude that both cards will get custom PCBs that are taller than the reference boards. At the same time they will use Twin Frozr III coolers with heatpipes and dual 92mm fans. The cards will also sport dual BIOS circuits and adjustable voltages for GPU, memory and VDDCI.
