ASUS has a new venture coming building on the new DirectCU II cooler. Beside this huge cooler ASUS’ new performance cards will get tailored circuit boards and more powerful power supply. Details we can now look closer at with pictures of a naked ASUS GeForce GTX 580 DirectCU II.
Behind the 100mm fans and the powerful aluminum heatsink of ASUS GeForce GTX 580 DirectCU II we find a big circuit board ready to be manhandled. The card sports 8 dedicated power phases fir GPU and 2 phases to make the GDDR5 memory happy.
If we compare the circuit board to NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 580 reference we see that hasn’t just heightened the card but also installed more circuits and capacitors. Some of the more obvious differences include dual 8-pin power connectors instead of 8+6 pin, while ASUS Super Hybrid Engine circuit makes an appearance in the lower corner.
Despite the heavy equipment in both power and cooling ASUS has chosen to set the frequency at a modest level. We’ve grown accustomed to this with ASUS, which simply leaves the overclocking to the end user.
ASUS GeForce GTX 580 DirectCU II will launch on January 25th, but the price is still to be revealed.
