Finnish software developers Futuremark has revealed that in the near future it will roll out the latest version of PCMark. Futuremark names the new test suit PCMark 7 where it once again focus on stressing the various components of the system with regular work scenarios loading everything from CPU to SSDs.
Futuremark did not reveal exactly when the test suite will appear for download or what it will cost. PCMark 7 is near an official release and as the name implies it will be focusing on Microsoft Windows 7.
Seven is also the number of benchmarks that are based on more than 20 individual loads;
- The PCMark Suite measures overall system performance and returns an official PCMark score
- The Lightweight Suite measures the capabilities of entry level systems unable to run the full PCMark suite.
- The Entertainment Suite measures system performance in entertainment, media and gaming scenarios.
- The Creativity Suite measures performance in typical creativity scenarios involving images and video.
- The Productivity suite measures system performance scenarios using the Internet and office applications.
- The Computation Suite contains workloads that isolate the computation performance of the system.
- The Storage Suite contains workloads that isolate the performance of the PC’s storage system.
Futuremark says that PCMark 7 is better suited for the modern computer market where it has developed tests that suits both less powerful mobile systems and SSD units and multimedia loads. More information on PCMark 7 is expected soon on the official website.
