AMD still has the fastest graphics card on the market now that NVIDIA has literally released GeForce GTX 590 out of its cage. With Radeon HD 6990 to take the crown the company is starting to look at the gaps in the rows below. By the end of the month it will launch a new entry card named Radeon HD 6790.
The card targets the lower mid-range market and can easily by confused with AMD’s fastest single-GPU card, Radeon HD 6970, but neither price nor performance will be the same.
We can’t offer any detailed performance analysis, but the card will officially launch on March 31st according to reliable sources and is expected to cost around $130, maybe less. This way AMD can fit even another card into the mid-range market sporting the latest Radeon HD 6000 architecture. The entry model today is Radeon HD 6850 and can be found at price slightly higher, $140 and up.
How Radeon HD 6790 stands from a performance perspective remains to be seen, but we can expect the regular features, such as DirectX 11, Eyefinity and HD3D.
