Sony has released the new VAIO SE with some interesting specifications, and overall good execution. As usual Sony focus on design with the VAIO series and the SE is one to make you drool. Besides the stylish design with aluminum body, it brings discrete graphics, up to two 512 GB SSDs and 26 mm in profile.
Sony VAIO SE will be a new member of the relatively expensive VAIO series. The body is made from aluminum, which is starting to become more common with top model notebooks. VAIO SE gets a 15.5″ screen with LED backlightinh and 1920 x 1080 px resolution, which is powered by either AMD Radeon HD 6470M 512 MB, or HD 6630M 1 GB.
The processor is an Intel Core i5-2430M 2.4/3.0 GHz with Hyper-threading, 3 MB cache and 35W TDP. It can be upgraded to Core i7-2640M 2.8/3.5 GHz with Hyper-threading, 4 MB cache and the same 35W TDP. The computer has 4 GB RAM soldered to the board, and one extra slot for more RAM.
The choice of harddrive falls into six configurations. The cheapest is a 500 GB 7200 RPM drive, while the most expensive is two 512 GB SSDs. If there are two 2.5″ slots or not in the computer it doesn’t say, since you can’t have more than one mechanical drive. DVD burner is standard, Blu-ray optional.
The battyer is a Li-Ion with 4400 mAh capacity. You can also get a sheet battery with the same capacity to expand with. The sheet battery attaches to the bottom of the computer instead of occupying much space on the back, which also spreads the mass across the entire computer. VAIO SE measures 380 × 24.5 × 255.9 mm and weighs 1.96 kg.

Finally it gets 1.3 megapixel webcamera, WiFi, USB 3.0, Bluetooth and Intel WiDi 2.1 support. Sony VAIO SE will start shipping in about two weeks, and cost $999 and up depending on configuration.
