Also MSI has showed an enthusiast board with socket LGA2011. MSI X79A-GD65 8D has as the suffix “8D” implies room for right DIMM slots, but besides that it doesn’t look like any of the better equipped LGA2011 motherboards we have to expect.
With the suffix 8D in mind it is possible that not all motherboards from MSI will have that many slots, but it is nothing we can speculate in before the launch. Sandy Bridge-E supports four memory channels, thus two DIMM slots will share one channel.
The motherboard has five PCI Express 3.0 slots, whereof three are x16-capable (two at most at x16 at the same time). Four of the slots can be used for CrossFireX or Quad-SLI, and then runs in x8 mode, that equals PCI Express 2.0 x16. One of the full lungth slots has only 4x bandwidth and is intended for other cards than graphics cards. A small PCI Express 2.0 x1 slots can also be found. For storage the board has four SATA 6.0 Gb/s, and four SATA 3.0 Gb/s.
On the back of the of the motherboard we have a PS/2, eight USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, optic and coax SPDIF, one Ethernet port, FireWire and audio connectors. Besides the two USB 3.0 on the back there will be two available for connecting to the front.
