Microsoft is said to have set the date for the launch of the new operating system Windows 8. In October both the PC and ARM versions will be available in stores, which confirms that Microsoft is going for a unified platform launch.
According to a report by Bloomberg Windows 8 will be coded and ready for the fall and that the sales of x86 computers and ARM tablets will start in October. This would give Microsoft plenty of time to build up a hype for the new platform before the Holiday shoppings.
Windows 8 is developed to fit a regular PC user with mouse and keyboard, but also the mobile user who is in need of a touch interface. Microsoft has developed a tailored version for the ARM platform that together with the new Metro interface will make it easier to bake Windows 8 into a tablet, where you rather navigate with your finger than a mouse and keyboard.
Other news in Windows 8 include support for USB 3.0, DirectX 11.1, optimized boot times easier handling of file transfers and loads of other functionality that has been added or updated since Windows 7.
Windows 8 Consumer Preview is currently available for free for those who wants to try it out, although not in its final shape. More information on Windows 8 and Consumer Preview can be found here.
