AMD have announced a model number strategy for the new AMD Opteron processors according to AMDMB.com.
These new 64-bits processor designed for workstation and server usage are expected to launch on April, 22. An official source from AMD has announced their new strategy which means that the Opteron will have a 3-digit model number.
The first number will stand for how big system (maxium number of processors) it is suited for. It will be divided into 3 categories, the 100 series, the 200 series and the 800 series. The 100 series will only allow 1 processor in the system, 200 series will allow 2, etc.
Digits number two and three will tell the consument the processors performance in relation to other Opteron processors. The higher the second and third digits are, the higher will the performance be.
