Digital-daily took a look at 13 motherboards using Intel’s 845 chipset. This includes products from Abit, Asus, Gigabyte (these three manufacturers are represented by 2 different boards), Albatron, Elitegroup, Epox, Intel, Iwill, Jetaway, Soltek (one product). When they benchmarked the products, no substantial performance differences were found.
It is only in features that some board did stand out: the Abit IT7-MAX2 v2.0 and the Asus P4PE were both proved to be the best choices for overclockers. When you look at integrated features, Abit IT7-MAX2 v2.0, Asus P4PE, Gigabyte 8PE667 Ultra2, Iwill P4HT-S and Epox 4PEA+ are good choices. Both the Asus and Gigabyte offer the best balanced set.
They conclude by: “If you don’t intend to overclock, any of the mentioned boards is a good choice.”
