It was a long time ago we saw a new Duron, but the upcoming generation looks more than excellent if the information we got from Xbitslab is correct. Shortly speaking it seems like we are looking at a new version of Thoroughbred. The processors will have 256 kb L2-cache and a 333MHz FSB and they will also carry the same PR-ratings as the AthlonXP does today.
Some quite odd situations might occur, because Barton with it’s 512 kb L2-cache actually does not always performs as good as Thoroughbred does at the same PR-rating. Duron 3000+ even faster than Athlon XP 3000+?
It seems like, however, AMD has chosen to continue to name the processors Athlon XP according to the latest information. If AMD succeeds in turning up the clocking frequency a little bit more, Intel will get some opposition for once.
