ATi got a few minutes to shine, but now it’s time for today’s real piece of news: GeForce FX 5900 Ultra. nVidia has worked hard and listened to the reviewers, when we have been complaining about the graphics quality and some other flaws in the FX architecture. It seems as if Chief Engineer David Kirk got to eat his old galoshs and realize that it probably was a good idea to use a 256 bits memory buss anyway.
HardOCP as usual offers one of the best available reviews. They compare ATi’s and nVidia’s latest two wonder children with each other and come to many interesting conclusions. Apart from that, they have also compared performance in Doom III in a version which has been approved by id Software!
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra 256 MB vs Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB is right here. The point that nVidia has learned from it’s mistakes is quite clear here. The performance therefor is better than with Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB.
A Doom III performance roundup can be found here. ATi litterally gets squashed in this test. We won’t see the final answer however until the game is finished and the device drivers have been optimated.
A card which we miss in these tests is FX 5800 Ultra.
