We thought that it was the end of nVidia’s optimizing after Detonator 43.51 solved the qualityproblems we’ve seen earlier in 3DMark03 (take a look here to see what it’s all about). Extreme Tech has now published a very consistently article where they explain how nVidia, with the new Detonator FX, has totally optimized the test.
You can see some weird things in 3DMark03 if you take a closer look at Game Test 4 Mother Nature. You can see it revealing itself by misscoloured pixles which moves around in the edge of the polygons.
We will, of course, let nVidia explain this first before we say that this is cheating. But the process which cause this problem is construated in such a way that it’s in principle impossible that it is something else but aware “optimizing”. Apart from that a lot of work must have been required from their side.
Read the aritcle here.
To have this optimizing in 3DMark03 is one thing, but the bigger problem is nVidia’s reliability. Not at least for us reviewers. They have been extremly obstinated with the optimizing of 3DMark03, how do we know that we can trust the results from other tests?
However, we’ll probably get an answer on this quite soon.
