Motherboard Roundup AMD

Legion Hardware reviewed 11 boards based on VIA’s KT400A chipset. Competitors were from Albatron, Acorp, AOpen, Biostar, DFI, ECS, EPoX, FIC, Gigabyte, Jetway, MSI and Soltek. With the coming of VIA’s KT600 chipset, and the competition with NVIDIA’s nForce2, a lot of motherboard makers doom this chipset to anonymity. Well, somebody shed some light on it:

“To be honest I think it is a chipset we could have almost done without but it some cases approve of its existence. Most manufacturers are making little mention of their KT400A solutions as they are really just new board revisions and yet others are really promoting their boards. I personally think these new KT400A boards such as the Gigabyte 7VAXP-A Ultra or MSI KT4A Ultra are very good value solutions. Both boards offer excellent performance and a great deal of features making them viable solutions for all users. Because KT400A boards generally cost no more than the current KT400 solutions I guess there really is no reason to question the chipset’s purpose as it offers marginally better performance. “
