Windows 8 to reach stores on October 26

Microsoft has set an official launch date for the next Windows operating system. On October 26 Microsoft will release Windows 8 for retail and in a few weeks the development of the operating system will end. When pre-orders will open is unclear.

Microsoft has already revealed that Windows 8 will launch in October, but now it has confirmed that that the exact date will be October 26th. Microsoft’s Steven Sinofsky, head of the Windows division, revealed the news during the annual sales meet.

Windows 8 will be Microsoft’s first Windows operating system with focus on both x86 and ARM platform where the company will go into the mobile sphere for serious. Windows 8 comes with its classic desktop interface, but also the touch-friendly Metro interface, which is intended for tablets and other touch units.

Microsoft has already revealed that the updates to Windows 8 from Windows 7 will be discounted, and that there will be pre-orders, but not when.
