Samsung has announced the start of mass production of a new generation of integrated storage memory for smartphones and tablets. Samsung eMMC Pro Class 1500 will offer record transfer speeds not just with large files but also during regular use.
Samsung’s new embedded multimedia card will be made with 16, 32-and 64 GB capacity. The circuits that is similar to mini-SSD units with its integrated NAND flash controller and firmware, for easy integration into mobile units. NAND circuits in Samsung’s new eMMC circuits build on the latest Toggle DDR 2.0 specification and is made with efficient 20 nanometer technology. The 64 GB circuit is only 1.2 millimeter in profile and will fit inside even the smallest units.
Samsung eMMC Pro Class 1500 will reach read speeds up to 140 MB/s and write speeds up to 40 MB/s. Numbers that may not sound very impressive, but compared to other mobile storage it is. Performance at read and write of random data, which simulates regular use, will be up to four times as high as current eMMC circuits.

With Samsung’s new eMMC circuits in mass production it is only a matter of time before we see smartphones and tablets with these new and faster storage solutions.
