ATi trumps by taking over the production of graphic chips for the Xbox. nVidia has made it until now and we’ve recently heard that the money begun to roll in seriously, but it looks like it’s already over for them.
Or as Bobbie Bach on Microsoft expresses it:
“We’re combining Microsoft’s vision, software experience and R&D resources with ATI’s pioneering leadership in graphics technologies to create innovative future Xbox products and services that meet the lifestyle needs of consumers in the Digital Decade, We selected ATI after reviewing the top graphics technologies in development and determining that ATI’s technical vision fits perfectly with the future direction of Xbox.”
A really interesting move but we hope this won’t affect the developing of graphic cards for PC’s in a bad way. Many analysts has insinuated that nVidia’s FX 5800 Ultra’s less good aspects was a direct result of a too big move of resources, from the developing of PC graphic cards to the developing of Xbox graphic chips.
