Vr-zone.com reviewed 9 motherboards with VIA’s KT600 chipset. ABIT, ASUS, AZZA, EPoX, FIC, Gigabyte, MSI, Soltek and SOYO were all present. Although this chipset, performance wise, is inferior to NVIDIA’s nForce2, the board have other qualities and one of them is its price.

“It is refreshing to see names like Soyo and Soltek ahead of names like Abit and Asus when it comes to performance. It might be possible that the Asus board’s poor performance can be cured with a new bios but so far, the board’s performance has been disappointing. Similarly, credit has to be given to Soyo and MSI for coming out with such good performing boards this time round.”

“So, if you need speed go with the WD360GD, if you need a sizable drive take the WD2500JD which also demonstrates excellent performance. If size is not critical for you, the Samsung or Maxtor can be a good choice too. At the same time, the Seagate Barracuda ATA V line looks already dated.”
