VIA to release KT880 chipset

According to DigiTimes, VIA will release yet another chipset for the K7 platform. The KT880 will support a 400 MHz FSB and dual-channel DDR400 memory. Set to be in stores late September or early October, it remains to be seen how the chipset compares to nVidia’s nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset, which will be its primary competitor. One might wonder how many people who are willing to buy a new K7 when the K8 will be available around the same time, but VIA counts on limited availability of the K8 until next year.
