Seagate introduces 100 GB platters for harddrives

0

Seagate has announced harddrive platters capable of storing as much as 100 GB. It’s a new world record, and it makes quiet, cool harddrives with more storage space possible. The more platters the more heat, so increasing the data density is a step in the right direction.
In relation to this, Seagate introduces a new version of the Barracuda 7200.7, built using two 100 GB platters resulting in a 200 GB drive. It will be available with both PATA and SATA interface, and its operation noise level will be as quiet as it is now.
The harddrive will also be the first one using NQC (SATA Native Command Queuing); a function that can only be implemented on harddrives with true SATA interface such as Seagate’s.
