SFF barebones are among the hottest products on the market right now and we see newly launched barebones wherever we turn. The founder of the SFF market, Shuttle, are not playing it lazy and has now sent out press releases for two new barebones.
One of the two, Shuttle SB65G2, is the manufacturers’ enthusiast version of the awarded Shuttle SB61G2.
By using the 856PE chipset on the SB65G2, the company has removed the integrated graphics and saved some money in the manufacturing process. The barebone also has a more powerful 220W PSU to handle the power-hungry components of today.
Additional news is the integrated support for 802.11b wireless network, which adds to the range of application. Shuttle SB65G2 is aimed at the gamers and overclockers according to Shuttle, and that explains the switch of chipset and the more powerful PSU.
Shuttle also reveals some information regarding its first Athlon64 barebone, Shuttle SN84G4, especially interesting now in the presence of the Athlon64 launch.
The barebone uses nVidia’s nForce3 150 chipset and supports 800 MHz HyperTransport bus and DDR400 RAM.
Besides that, the barebone has the usual amount of features such as SATA, AGP 8X, FireWire, USB 2.0 etc. Something we haven’t seen on Shuttles’ barebones before is the lack of an external 3.25” slot, now replaced by a 6-in-1 card reader. This is, however, only a change to the better.
