You might wonder what would be so interesting with this. Well, our Asian friends are not of those who doubts to any serious extent when it comes to overclocking new processors. At VR-Zone.com we could read that the Japanese overclocker Katsumi had gotten his hands on a Athlon64 FX-system and done a few tests of the more extreme kind.
Katsumi used an ASUS SK8N mainboard in conjunction to the Athlon64 FX, and the mainboard was, not very surprisingly, modded to for example deliver higher voltage. With a new BIOS-version one can change the muiltiple and with a 14x multiple he has managed to get the processor up to a whole 3.05GHz. To achieve this overclocking of almost 40% the processor was cooled with dry ice mixed with ethanol.
The system managed to perform a round of SuperPi on the time 29s which is a result that matches a Pentium 4 processor clocked to 4.9GHz (not counting the Extreme Edition though) which is very impressive.
