This may not be that affiliated with hardware, but rather interesting none the less.
Apparantly Sweden is the worst country in Scandinavia when it comes to the usage of illegal software. During this year BSA, an anti pirate organization, has found over 100 000 illegally copied applications at Scandinavian companies, whereas 72 000 where Swedish.
Totally Swedish companies has paid over 7 million SEK in fine to BSA de last few years.
Beth Scott, the chief of BSA’s European department, emphasizes the face that they are not chasing private persons, but rather companies that are using illegal software.
What prove to be the toughest resistance in the anti-piracy war is, rather unsurpisingly, the extreme possibilities of the internet, where the latest tools are now auction sites.
Beth Scott tells ComputerSweden of a fraud that sold pirated software at EBay to almost retail prices, to not arouse suspicion.
This fraud was chased for two years by the BSA and he is thought to have accumulated a whole 3 million Euro through the years of his “activity”. He is now been sentenced to 2 years of prison for his crimes.
A two week investigation of the most common peer-to-peer networks showed that the five most common programs were downloaded for a value of 242 million SEK.
