By the launch of the Athlon 64 FX51, there was only one mainboard on the market suited for this processor; the Asus SK-8N. We have since then reported about mainboard manufacturers’ unwillingness to produce mainboards for the Socket 940 platform. Nevertheless, another board for this platform has now entered the market.
The manufacturer behind this is Gigabyte and the board goes under the name Gigabyte K8NNXP-940. In true Gigabyte spirit, the board is well equipped and the performance is likewise very impressive. Unfortunately, the guys at Anandtech have had some problems with overclocking, but happily, this seems to be BIOS related.
There is no word about pricing in the review, but we guess that those who buy an Athlon 64 FX51 processor don’t care much about it.
It definitely seems like the Athlon 64 FX51 has recieved a new and very nice partner, but just like Intel’s Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, the costs for an FX system are sky-high.
In other words; nothing for the regular consumers but something you might dream about.
