Socket 940 and 754 will still be left during 2004

From the start it was meant for AMD to transfer their Athlon 64 FX processors to use Socket 939 at the beginning of next year. This was meant to be at the same time as the transition towards the 0.09µ production technique was going to take place and Socket 940 would fade away from the market eventually. Now on the other hand, it seems like AMD have changed their plans and are about to continue the support for Socket 940 during 2004 with its new processors. This is presumably an attempt from AMD to resurrect the Athlon 64 market that have had a weak response so far, especially from the motherboard manufacturers.

Socket 754 for the Athlon 64 processor will also still be available during the year 2004 with the introduction of the new processor models, but we had already expected this to happen. The question we all want to hear an answer to, is when Socket 939 really is going to be introduced on the market. A delay does not seem to be all that far away when we get this kind of newsbreak.
