SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display) is one the lesser known display technologies on the market for flat monitors. Canon Inc. and Toshiba Corp. are the two companies behind the SED-technology and now they’ve exhibited their new model of their SED-panel that literally made us drewl. The new SED-panel has a contrast ratio of incredible 100 000:1. You can compare this with today’s flat LCD-monitors that in best has ratio of 1000:1. Since earlier SED-panels has had a contrast ratio of 8600:1 they’ve taken a great leap with their technology. “Many display engineers have been interested in SED panels, appraising them as “capable of showing a completely different ‘black’ compared to conventional displays.” The SED panel seems to have marked even higher specifications in “black” display capability.” The SED-technology clearly seems very interesting and it would be even more interesting to see this creation in real life. The question is when/if we get to see SED-panels on the consumer market. Source: TechON
