Small preview imageMobility Radeon X800 XT is ATi’s latest addition to the mobile graphic circuit market and what an addition! Mobility Radeon X800 XT is as the name implies an offspring to the desktop model X800 XT and it isn’t much ATi has cut down on the mobile circuit. MR X800 XT has 16 pixel pipelines just as the desktop version and uses a 256-bit memory bus with support for GDDR3-memory.

Mobility Radeon X800 XT is as expected not for the really portable laptops but a circuit for the so called DTR-market (Desktop Replacement). I.e. the performance comes first, while mobility and userfriendliness comes second. At Anantech they’ve gotten their hands on a laptop from Alienware that uses ATi’s latest graphic circuit and it is one monster of a laptop. The performance is frightening, but so is also the heat dissipation and the noice.

“The 3.8GHz Pentium 4 Alienware system with 1GB of RAM, 2 DVD players, all sorts of I/O, and the Mobility Radeon X800 XT surpasses the performance of most of our desktop test beds in many areas. As this article is typed on an IBM X31 notebook with the rain clearing up outside, the feeling that the much predicted mobile revolution is in full swing overwhelms the moment. Of course, the moment is lost when the fans spin up on the Alienware notebook and the ear plugs are just out of reach.”
