We earlier reported on that Sony’s format for its portable gaming console PSP, UMD, had been cracked by hackers, but now it seems there is still a lot left to do before you can really use the crack. According to Chris Gilbert, that Tomshardware has spoken with, if you get a game onto a memory card it is still a lot of work left before you can get it to run properly or even at all. Above anything else the unit is programmed to boot from the UMD-reader and the unit expects the stream of data to come from the UMD-reader and not from the memry card. The today existing program that is used, works with early versions of PSP, but when it comes to units using a newer BIOS there is still no fully working program but from what it seems people are wokring hard on fixing that. Sony isn’t completely lost though and it simply forces users to upgrade their consoles to the latest BIOS if they want to be able to play newer games such as Gran Turismo. Source: Tomshardware
