Only a few days ago the new topp500 was published, a list over the world’s 500 fastest computers. At the top we saw IBM unthreatened with two BlueGene/L systems and one of those who had been moved down a few pegs was Fujitsu. IBM has so far not been able to utilize all the power of the BlueGene/L and is expected to double the already impressive performance. If Fujitsu gets anything to say the performance of the BlueGene/L this won’t get them far in a few years. BlueGene/L should be able to reach 270 Teraflops, but Fujitsu has plans for a super-computer that can reach 3 Petaflops, 3000 Teraflops. If the system becomes real or not is another question, but Fujitsu isn’t expecting to have a system running for another 6 years.
