Blu-ray, which is one the formats fighting to become the next generation DVD-format, other is HD DVD, will use Java to power the interactive features in its DVD-players. Sun Microsystems that is behind Java announced this during a conference in San Francisco last tuesday. Hence Blu-ray DVD-players will use Java for the intereactive features such as menues, network services and games. These are very good news for Sun but Blu-ray first has to. despite these good news. still win the fight against HD DVD, a fight that already has commenced and should reach its climax very soon. This will probably boost the status of Java outside the PC-marknaden, which is hardly something we would object to as it is a very versatile language.
