Small preview imageIntel’s current processor branding can eaily be described with one word, confusing. Things really where better before when you only had to compare frequencies ad you could actually find the right processor without worries. But as AMD and Intel chose different paths on how to make processors this comparison became irrelevant. This brought that both AMD and Intel switched PR-system. Unfortunately both systems have been misued which has only made it harder for us, the consumers to keep up. Now it seems Intel is about abandon its relatively new system and switch to a just as confusing.

The new system will use both letter and numbers to describe the processor. The first letter will indicate the class of processor and the first number what family it belongs to, the next number is probably an indicatino of the processor’s speed and than it has added two zeros for some unknown reason.

According to The Inquirer Intel’s coming processor Yonah will be one of the first to use this rating system and the name of this one will x1x00.

“The normal processors will be labelled T1x00, low voltage will be L1x00 and ULV models will be U1x00. Got that? But the situation will become more confused when the Merom family of cores is launched. Merom itself is another T’, but the second number is either a 4 or 6, and I have no idea what the difference is, speed is the next number. Possibly cores, but who knows.”

Hopefully we will get a better grip of this system as Intel releases some more information about it. Until then we will simply have to hope for a miracle that turns back time.
