Apple launches iPod Video

Apple finally held its special event earlier and a bit unexpected, considerig Steve Jobs earlier statements, it launched its fifth generation iPod-players. The biggest news here is that the new player plays video except for music and can show images. The new players are harddrive based as earlier versions have been but despite this Apple has managed to make the player quite slim. It has launched two new models, one at 30GB and one at 60GB. The first will be 45% small than the original player and the 60GB-model is 10% thinner than the fourth generation 20GB-model. A very important detail with a video capable player is of course the display and it has been updated since the last generation.

The fifth generation iPod hasa 2.5″ big display with 320x240px resolution and 262 000 colors. The battery time has also been improved to 20h when listening to music. The new generation Ipods looks quite promising and Apple has used its older players as a foundation for this new player. How much it will actually focus on the video-portion remains to see.
