CrossFire is still having problems and starting with a delayed launch of the technology we are still waiting for the mainboards with support for ATi’s multi-GPU-technology. We’ve been reporting about a few boards that has started to show up, but then the next problem arrives, there are almost no CrossFire graphic cards available. These cards are as you know necessary to make CrossFire work and the only CrossFire-card that you can get your hands on without difficulties seems to be X850 XT PE CrossFire Edition. The reason is that there aren’t more X800 X850-based CrossFire-cards around is because graphic card-manufacturers doesn’t want to make them.

It may sound weird but considering the ciritcism that X800/X850 CrossFire-systems has received with its limited features and performance it seems that most manufacturers are waiting for the X1800 and X1600 series to arrive. CrossFire-cards for X1800/X1600 is expected to arrive at the end of November and for both us consumers and ATi’s own sake we hope that this is correct. Otherwise nVidia will literally have a very nice Christmas.
