Blue laser, the name comes from the fact the laser used with this technology is in fact blue. Today’s DVD-format uses a red laser and even if the color itself doesn’t really matter red and blue light have different properties. The blue has a shorter wavelength and can therefore store and read more information than a red one can, using the same szie disc. Blue laser is mainly known for being the technology behind the coming DVD-formats, HD DVD and Blu-ray, but already today there are optical storage units that use the blue laser. Plasmon UDO30D-SE is one of them and at CDRInfo they’ve tested this unit that has a capacity of 30GB.
