Radeon X1800-serien has just as the other cards in ATi’s new X1000-series been equipped with a very effective and programmable memory controller. ATi has simply created a memory controller it can use for the next generation of circuits as well. We already knew that the X1000-series memory controller supports GDDR4 but now information that states that the controller can address over 512MB has appeared. The memory controller is actually able to address up to 1GB of mmeory, which no other card can do today.
If this information correct ATi will most likely launch a 1GB version of X1800 in the future, perhaps not necessary, but still a nice PR-move by ATi.
