Memory-latencies’ affections to performance

0

Memory latencies are something we often bring up here at NH and most of you out there knows that the lower latencies (shorter wait) the better performance on your computer. Exactly why the performance increases maybe is a bit unclear and just how big the differences are measured in performance really are, is something that isn’t exactly straightforward. At Tech Report they’ve published an article of the same subject, where they try to find out how big the differences are with different memory latencies are in todays computer systems, by running a few performance tests. The system used is not surprisingly an Athlon 64-based system, as the Athlon 64 with its integrated memory controller gains the most advantage of low memory latencies.
