HardOCP speaks out about CrossFire’s certification program

Small preview imageHardOCP has been receiving a lot of criticism for being negative towards ATi’s CrossFire platform and they have now published an article where they explain what and why they haven’t been very positive regarding ATI’s multi GPU technology, but at the same time they write about ATI’s solution for the CrossFire problems. We’re talking about ATI’s certification program for motherboards, which doesn’t just affect CrossFire motherboards, but the point is, that those manufacturers that wants to, can have their boards tested and then listed at ATI’s homepage which means that the boards have gone through and passed some hard and demanding tests.

So far there are no CrossFire motherboards listed and it really shows that the platform is still a bit immature. They specificly discuss DFI which is a good example as it was the first to launch a CrossFire motherboard which despite ATI’s PR-campaigns hasn’t made it to its list of certied boards, which isn’t all that weird though as DFI is not one of the the manuacturers supporting the program. The fact that it doesn’t support the program is a bit odd though and even CrossFire is going through some rough times now they seem to have a positive outlook for the future at HardOCP.
