Xbox 360 – Supply/demand breakdown?

Xbox 360 was suppose to be the first gaming console to be launched worldwide, but that didn’t happen, and that was probably for the best because we have been hearing rumours from time to time about Microsoft not being able to produce enough units in time for the launch. We’ve seen figures ranging from 2 up to 4 milliion consoles before the end of this year and to be honest not even 4 million would be enough for everyone who wants one to be able to get an Xbox 360. Microsoft has tried to calm the public and we know that it has increased its capacity with an entire factory since Xbox was launched to make sure that the history does not repeat itself.

But that doesn’t seem to have helped as many stores have pushed up the prices high above Microsoft’s recommended prices since there isn’t enough consoles to go around. In most cases the stores only sell the consoles as packs with tons of accessories, which we can hardly blame Microsoft for, but when you hear prices closer to $600 than the $300 we were promised, it’s hard not to get upset.

Microsoft has in now ay planned this shortage of consoles and judging from the past this was most likely the last thing it wanted to happen as it lost tons and tons of money during the shortage of consoles at the launch of the first Xbox. Whether we will see a “compensation” from Microsoft like the one it did with the last console remains to see, but that may very well happen since the greedy salesmen and shop owners seems to force the consumers to buy the consoles to almost ridiculous prices, in turn blaiming Microsoft for the shortage and which forces them to raise the prices and so forth.
