FVD players being mass produced

FVD is yet one of many optical formats that will arrive soon. In difference to Blu-ray and HD DVD FVD uses red laser technology, just as DVD, which makes the production costs considerably less. At the same time FVD will not offer the same capacity as the rivaling blue laser formats, but FVD hopes to make up for it with its lower costs and faster launch. FVD is developed by Taiwan and the massproduction of FVD players started already last month, November. It expects to have over 1000 FVD movies available at the end of 2006 and the first players will arrive at the start of 2006. Whether FVD will gain a foothold on the market outside of Taiwan is hard to say.
