Radeon X1600 XT has recently arrived on the market and ATI has announced that these cards will work in Crossfire configurations without a Master card. This has started rumours and speculations of how much you will actually gain from running a X1600 XT Crossfire system. The Inquirer has done some quick tests with two X1600 XT graphic cards in Crossfire, the results it got with 3Dmark05 was actually quite promising. A single card got a score of 5093, while two cards in Crossfire incresed this to respectable 8730 points, an increase with about 71%. 8700 poäng was also what Radeon X1800 XL managed to accomplish on its own.
How other applications react to the X1600 XT cards in Crossfire remains to see, but there doesn’t seem to be any bottlenecks due to the lack of a Master card.
