ATI R580 = Radeon X1900?

ATI has despite the relatively new Radeon X1800 XT a hard time to keep up in the high end segment of the market. It has graphic cards that will be more than enough to consumers, but NVIDIA’s GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB is a real thorn in the side for ATI as it then can’t claim to be the company with the fastest card available. ATI is therefore working hard on getting its new R580 circuit on the market as soon as possible. The R580 circuit uses the same pin setup as R520 which means that the new cards can use the samePCB, more or less, but the name of R580 will be a new one. R580 will most likely be launched in a couple of different appearances in the new Radeon X1900 series, but exactly what ATI’s plans for the future looks like remains to see.
