Seagate was the world’s biggest manufacturer of harddrives already before aquiring Maxtor and by buying them, they now are the undoubtedly biggest. Seagate are now the first to launch a whole series of harddrives based on perpendicular recording. The technology means that the data is saved vertically instead of longitudally, which allows a higher density and thanks to this technology, Seagate has been abled to increase their storage capacity in today’s harddrives. The first harddrive in the series is the Seagate Momentus 5400.3. It will have the same fine performance as its predecessors, store more (160GB) and at the same time only consume as much power as today’s 4200 rpm-units.
