Small preview imageATI delivers circuits to most markets where there is a demand for accelerated graphics and from now on this includes the handheld device market. The more and more advanced cell phones and pocket PCs that keeps coming has started create a request for more serious graphic circuits and this is where ATI is hoping its new Imageon series will become interesting. It has now launched two new circuits called Imageon 2380 and Imageon 2388. The new circuits supports, among others, OpenGL ES 1.2 and high resolution displays (up to 640x480px). The new circuits will offer new cell phones the possiblity to handle both advanced 3D effects and animations with minimal load on the main processor.

“OpenGL ES 1.2 allows game developers and content creators to bring more realistic detail in environments, lighting and objects, while maintaining a high level of interactivity. By alleviating a significant amount of work being done by the main processor, the Imageon 2380 and Imageon 2388 can efficiently produce 3D visual effects and drive animation with quality previously unattainable on a cell phone.”

It is just a matter of time before we will see a large assortment of 3D games for our cell phones and ATI seems to be one of them that wants to push the development forward.
