Hewlett-Packard is planning on introducing a new cooling system for its big rack servers and its Modular Cooling System is based on the fundementals of water cooling to reach a high efficiency. The system consists out of a separate chamber which is attached to the side of HP’s rack and this sealed chamber contains cooled air separated from the rest of the computer system. The chamber cools the air by a connection to an external water cooling system. This system lets a rack consume up to 30 kilowatt without problems, with conventional air cooling you can’t go above 10 kilowatt for a similar system. HP is working on an even more efficient version of its Modular Cooling System which will be able to cool a whole row of server racks, this system is expected to hit the market in 2007.
We are hardly talking about a regular water cooling kit here and below you can see the sturdy cooling system attachet to a rack server.
