Lenovo joins the Super 3G march

Small preview imageThe computer manufacturer Lenovo is the latest company to join the new 3G-standard HSDPA, also called Super 3G. The new technology has a much higher download rate than today’s 3G-technology which should make it a really good complement to portable units that require connection to the Internet. Just like Dell, Lenovo has concluded a deal with Vodafone which gives them the right to use their regular 3G and GPRS networks, but also HSPDA (Super 3G) should be included in the deal. Super 3G is expected to be launched by network operators during this year and that gives notebooks among others a significantly faster Internet-connection without the need of wireless networks. Super 3G will in the beginning support download speeds up to 1.4MBps but is expected to get upgraded to around 10MBps to year 2008.

This will of course give notebooks more functionality during field days and with integrated circuitry for Super 3G, it becomes a whole lot easier compared to those who use PC Card, often used today. Lenovo will integrate support for Vodafone’s network in their Thinkpad T60 and X60-series notebooks to begin with, these will be available in a couple of European countries like Germany, Great Britain and France.
